pictures, pictures, pictures!!!

the first pictures of the trip...

the first night... after a failed attempt to meet Pat and Erik at Sants, Sarita, Brandan, and I stopped at a pub for a drink. It must have been the hours travelling beforehand because after that one drink we were all a little tipsy...

This is what happens when guys don't ask you to help them with the sunscreen on there back... a round of sunburns after the first day at the beach.

This was the first time at Parallel... the guys got some footage and represented Qualicum Beach.

A night at the Espanya ledge... the ledge is located in a plaza. There are performing arts buildings surrounding the square. That day there were some students installing a large sculpture...

on the side of the building were dozens of ceramic pots... I noticed the next time we were there little bits of pottery were on the ground. I think people regularly vandalize the installment... makes me wonder how long the display will last...

these were taken on our way home from Espanya... just when you think the day of adventure is winding down...

These were taken while the guys were getting some footage...

there were always kids in the plaza's playing football and/or setting off fireworks...

These were taken in the wee hours of the morn. This is the street access to our apartment. We were all coming home from a night out but kind of got separated. We were waiting for Pat and Brandon to return because they had the keys. Erik and Sarita were wiped out... while I was getting inspired...
...eventually, Pat and Brandan came home with the key.

I noticed we aquired a few collections in our apartment...
One morning I woke up itching to do some artwork... this is what came out... not so good but...

this is what we ended up seeing later that afternoon while walking along La Ramblas. I thought the poses were strickingly similar... This guy is balancing a glass ball on the tip of his thumb. He was really good at smoothly juggling it along his hands... like David Bowie in the Labyrinth. He was one of my favorite street performers seen on the trip.

The Matchsticks... just down from Montbau, the spot we were skating. Sarita and I went on a mission to get some water when we stumbled upon this. These sculptures are huge and cover a lot of ground! Just out of the picture is another match that was made to be black and burnt out looking... really cool work... one that has been skated on as well...

An evening with a couple of drinks at Haddock -a chill little pub just around the corner from where we were staying...
Some graffiti spotting from the day Sarita and I went to the Salvador Dali exhibit...
The barrier of giant concrete cubes...
An evening in... playing with different manual settings on my camera
MACBA: Musee d'Art Contemporare Barcelona

After MACBA, we were on our way to the beach and saw this installation. It was an army of men made from various types of recycled garbage. Each was about the scale of an average human. They filled the whole square and held quite a presence when you walked amongst them.

This is at Parallel. The one wall that Sarita is looking at changed every time we went there. The graffiti artists don't slack! I was impressed that the city let the images stay. At this point, everyone was wiped out and having a little bit of a snooze (myself included.)

Parc Guell

and the Musee d'Gaudi...

Awaiting the sunrise...
This man came up to me when I was taking pictures of the sunrise. He was strolling down the beach half naked. He asked if I would take a picture of him. It was an odd question to ask, and an equally odd question to reply to. I ended up shooting this photo, which I quite like but still get perplexed when I think of the scenario. To me it just proves that some images arrive at the oddest times, from the oddest people...

The day after the sunrise mission... it was a lazy beach day. Sarita and Pat were consumed in there game of chess...
This was at Sant Marti. There was a huge group of pigeons... it was just too tempting!

I took this one of the way to the beach one day. This building had previously been overlooked by myself but apparently Sarita had noticed it a few days prior. She said there was banners and graffiti messages all over the outside. It appeared to be some kind of inhabitted protest. A few days later this is what it looked like. The place was surrounded by security guards and their dogs as the demolition continued. If you look close you can still see some people's clothes hanging from pegs on the walls. There wasn't any other signs of the protest... I'm not sure what happened after this.

Ferral cats at the Colluseum... they all came out of no where, like a little gang, and sat there staring at the people sitting at the cafe tables.
Sagrada Familia

the "bells" in the tower...

That's pretty much it for the photos from the trip... I would've liked to take more but I only had one working memory card... hope you enjoyed some of them... lots of love and good wishes, Tani.
